Ghostlike races that find themselves roaming the material plane. They exist in a state of limbo, not truly undead yet not alive either. Driven by an unknown purpose, they haunt the material plane.

Phantomling Traits

As a Phantomling, you have the following traits.

  • Ability Score Increase. Your Constitution score increases by 1, and your Charisma score increases by 2.
  • Creature Type. You are a Humanoid.
  • Size. You are Medium.
  • Speed. Your walking speed is 30 feet.
  • Age. At the point of their manifestation, Phantomlings remain in the material plane for around 50 years, after which they randomly dematerialise back into purgatory.
  • Alignment. Phantomlings are confused, tortured beings questioning their very own existence. They tend to be chaotic in nature, burdened by pain and loss. Some of their personality while alive influences them to good or evil.
  • Ancestral Legacy. If you replace a race with this lineage, you can keep the following elements of that race: any skill proficiencies you gained from it and any climbing, flying, or swimming speed you gained from it.
    • If you don’t keep any of those elements or you choose this lineage at character creation, you gain proficiency in two skills of your choice.
  • Darkvision. You have Darkvision with a range of 60 feet.
  • Undead Resilience. You don’t need to eat, drink, breathe, or sleep.
  • Incorporeal Form. You are resistant to necrotic damage, and are immune to diseases.
  • Frightful Presence. As an action, you can unleash a ghastly scream that frightens nearby creatures. Choose a number of creatures within 30ft of you that can see or hear you. They must make a Wisdom saving throw (DC = 8 + your Charisma modifier + your proficiency bonus). On a failed save, they are frightened of you until the end of your next turn. Once you use this trait, you can’t use it again until you finish a short or long rest.
  • Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and one language of your choice.
