Hong Shan Weapon Properties

The following weapon properties are used by several Hong Shan weapons.

Defensive

Once per turn, when a creature misses you with a melee attack while you are wielding this weapon, you can immediately move up to 10 feet without provoking opportunity attacks from that creature. You cannot benefit from this property while using a shield.

Lashing

When you make an attack with this weapon against a creature wielding a shield, you ignore the AC bonus granted by that shield for this attack, up to a maximum of 2 AC.

Stance

As a bonus action, you may enter this weapon’s stance until the start of your next turn. While in this stance, the weapon gains the benefits listed in parentheses.

  • If the stance lists a damage die, the weapon’s damage die becomes the value listed in parentheses.
  • Stance can also grant additional weapon properties while active, as listed in the stance entry in parentheses. If the stance lists a range, reach, or any other value, use the value as written while the stance is active, overriding the weapon’s normal value.

Hong Shan Weapon Masteries

The following masteries are unique to Hong Shan weapons.

Flowing

When you hit a creature with this weapon, you may move 5 feet without provoking opportunity attacks from that creature.

Momentum

If you moved at least 10 feet immediately before making an attack with this weapon, the attack deals additional damage equal to your proficiency bonus.

Returning

After you throw this weapon, if it is within its normal range when the attack finishes, it returns to your hand. Otherwise, it lands in an unoccupied space within 5 feet of the last creature or space it targeted.
