Circle of the Root

Druids of the Circle of Root are stewards of life’s quiet perseverance. They nurture the earth beneath their feet, coaxing vibrant flora into existence with a mere touch. By communing with plants and drawing upon their innate vitality, they create lush sanctuaries, have mastery over vegetation, and turn the battlefield into a living tapestry of growth.
Level 2: Circle of the Root Spell
Starting at 2nd level, you learn additional spells when you reach certain levels in this class, as shown in the Circle of the Root Spells table. These spells count as druid spells for you but don’t count against the number of druid spells you prepare.
Circle of the Root Spells
| Druid Level | Spells |
|---|---|
| 1 | Entangle, Ensnaring Strike |
| 3 | Spike Growth, Barkskin |
| 5 | Plant Growth, Speak with Plants |
| 7 | Conjure Woodland Beings, Hallucinatory Terrain |
| 9 | Commune with Nature, Tree Stride |
Level 2: Grass Whisperer
You learn the Druidcraft cantrip if you don’t already know it. It does not count against the number of cantrips you know.
You can also communicate telepathically with plants, sharing sensations, emotions, and simple ideas. Plants respond to your questions with vague notions or visions, revealing information such as creature movements, changes in the environment, or recent disturbances. You have advantage on ability checks to understand and communicate with plants and plant creatures.
Level 2: Plant Companion
You can expend a use of Wild Shape as an action to summon a Plant Companion, a small vine, flower, or sapling that clings to a creature of your choice within 5 feet of you. The creature gains the following benefits while the companion is attached:
- The creature gains a +1 bonus to its AC.
- The companion heightens their awareness, granting a +5 bonus to their passive perception.
You can only have one Plant Companion at a time. The companion lasts until your next long rest or until you dismiss it as a bonus action. You can transfer the companion to another willing creature within 5 feet as a bonus action.
Alternatively, you can summon your Plant Companion as a creature similar to Find Familiar, taking the form of an Awakened Shrub that is friendly to you and your allies.
Level 6: Sprout Giver
You always have the Goodberry spell prepared. When a creature eats your goodberry, each berry restores additional hit points equal to your Wisdom modifier.
Additionally, when you summon your Plant Companion, it spawns with 10 Goodberries. A creature that the Plant Companion is attached to can consume or share a goodberry as a bonus action.
Level 10: Rootwalker’s Passage
You can cast Tree Stride once without expending a spell slot, and when you do so, it does not require concentration. Additionally, when you cast Tree Stride in this way, you can bring a number of willing creatures equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of one) with you.
Once you cast Tree Stride in this way, you can’t do so again until you finish a long rest.
Level 14: Deeply Rooted
Your mastery over plant magic allows you to sustain its effects effortlessly. When you cast a spell that creates, summons, or manipulates plants such as Wall of Thorns or Entangle, you have advantage to maintain concentration on that spell, and its duration is doubled.
Additionally, creatures making saving throws or ability checks to resist the effects of such spells do so with disadvantage.
